BONE GRAFTING

At Apex Dentistry, led by Dr. Mojgan Salehi, we understand the critical role that bone density plays in supporting dental implants and preserving overall oral health. When bone loss occurs due to factors such as periodontal disease, trauma, or tooth extraction, it can compromise the success of dental implant procedures. That’s where bone grafting comes in. Our experienced team specializes in bone grafting procedures to restore lost bone tissue, creating a solid foundation for dental implants and enhancing the longevity of your smile.

Understanding Bone Grafting

Bone grafting is a surgical procedure performed to augment or regenerate bone tissue in areas where it has been lost or resorbed. During the procedure, bone graft material is placed in the deficient area to stimulate new bone growth and promote bone regeneration. This newly formed bone provides support and stability for dental implants, allowing for successful implant placement and restoration of oral function and aesthetics.

BENEFITS OF BONE GRAFTING

Improved Bone Volume

Bone grafting restores lost bone tissue, creating a stable foundation for dental implants and ensuring long-term implant success.

Enhanced Implant Stability

By augmenting bone volume, bone grafting enhances the stability and longevity of dental implants, reducing the risk of implant failure and complications.

Preservation of Facial Structure

Bone grafting helps prevent further bone loss and preserves the natural contours of the jawbone and facial features, maintaining a youthful appearance.

Restored Oral Function

With sufficient bone support, dental implants can effectively support prosthetic teeth, allowing for normal chewing, speaking, and smiling.

THE BONE GRAFTING PROCESS

Before undergoing bone grafting, Dr. Salehi will conduct a thorough evaluation of your oral health and assess the extent of bone loss using advanced imaging techniques. Based on this assessment, she will develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs and goals.

Over time, the bone graft material integrates with the surrounding bone tissue, stimulating the formation of new bone cells and blood vessels. This process, known as osseointegration, strengthens the bone structure and prepares it for dental implant placement.

During the bone grafting procedure, Dr. Salehi will make a small incision in the gum tissue to access the deficient bone area. The bone graft material, which may be sourced from your own body, a donor, or synthetic sources, is then placed in the targeted area and secured in place. In some cases, a barrier membrane may be used to protect the graft and enhance bone regeneration.

Once the grafted bone has healed and matured, usually after several months, dental implants can be placed in the augmented bone. These implants serve as artificial tooth roots, providing support for prosthetic teeth and restoring function and aesthetics to your smile.
